Windows Measurement Prototype
Build a rough window-area note before you request quotes.
Enter the visible opening width and height for each window to total an approximate square footage. It is a homeowner planning tool—not a professional measurement, quote, or installation specification.
Measure from inside when possible
Keep the notes simple and safe.
Use a tape measure at a stable, reachable opening. If you need a ladder, cannot safely reach a point, or are unsure where to measure, leave it for a contractor to verify.
- 1
Measure opening width
Measure horizontally across the visible window opening in inches. Record the smallest clear width you can safely reach.
- 2
Measure opening height
Measure vertically from the visible sill area to the top of the opening in inches. Do not force a measurement around trim or obstructions.
- 3
Repeat one window at a time
Give each opening a simple label, such as kitchen or bedroom. Keep separate openings separate instead of combining them.
- 4
Share the notes for verification
Your total helps describe the project. A contractor should confirm dimensions, rough openings, installation needs, and final scope.
Approximate area estimator
Add each window opening.
Enter inches. The tool multiplies width by height for each window and converts the total to square feet. It does not account for frame depth, rough openings, product size, or installation requirements.
When you are ready
Use your notes to start a local quote request.
Share your rough window notes along with the project details. A contractor can verify the openings and discuss the actual scope.
$3 per homeowner request. No obligation to hire.
